As the autonomous police system is implemented, local residents are expected to cooperate and participate in the system, not a passive beneficiary. While residents’ cooperation and participation are discussed as essential for the settlement of autonomous police system, actual interest and participation is low. In this context, this study aims to empirically explore the factors that affect the willingness of residents to participate in autonomous police system activities. Based on the theoretical discussion on Co-production and Community policing, awareness and perceived effectiveness of the system, perceived regional safety, and satisfaction with police activities were conceptualized as factors affecting participation. And empirical analysis was conducted through ordinal logistic regression analysis. The result indicate that the more relevant factors were secured in the order of residents’ perceived effectiveness of the system, satisfaction with police activities in transportation, perceived regional safety of the socially disadvantaged, and awareness of the system, the more the residents’ willingness to participate increases. But the satisfaction with the police activities for the socially disadvantaged was found to decrease participation. This result is interpreted as the actual beneficiaries of the police activities for socially disadvantaged are limited, general residents will not take direct participatory actions due to the low acceptance of the security service. Based on the results, this study suggests that to encourage actual participation of residents’ related to autonomous police system, promoting the system, actively utilizing local communities, designing an environment that promotes local safety, and providing participation incentives at satisfactory level.
